Patmos
One of the most beautiful islands of Greece and surely one with a rich cultural history. After less than two hours trip by hydrofoil, we arrive at the port of Skala (the capital and main harbour of Patmos). By bus we go to the Grotto of the Apocalypse, where St. John the Theologian spent nearly two years writing the "Apocalypse" (The Book of Revelations).
We follow the road to the impressive Monastery of John the Theologian and visit the chapel of Maria, with its beautiful icons and ornaments from orthodox churches and the famous "Iconostasis", also with numerous icons, the Refectory, the Bakery and the Museum. A little panoramic walk in Chora, the village rebuilt in the 16th century around the Monastery, will lead
us to the restaurant for lunch, before we drive down town for a coffee in Skala and return by hydrofoil to Kos.
N.B. : When you want to visit churches or monasteries in Greece, you should please have your shoulders and knees covered !
